"What I've told you about them here is merely an introduction to who these people are. There is so much more for me to say about them, and so much more for you to learn about them." Katie Logan - One Hundred Names
2019 was the time when I first saw this novel was put on the shelve that displayed the promoted books. I was surprised by the price of this novel exhibition displayed. It was quite cheap for the imported books in Indonesia. Without thinking twice, I bought the novel and went home happily.
The novel tells the story about Kathrine Logan also known as Katie Logan. She was a journalist in a magazine named Etcetera. The magazine company should be at the court because of the case which Katie started. She was written an incorrect story which made a guy named Colin Maguire who was punished by the police. By all the efforts she and her team made, The Etcetera was still supposed to clean the guy name in public.
As the time goes by, Katie had a close friend and mentor named Constance. She was also Katie's boss who always gave good advices. However, she passed away after Katie visited her in a hospital and her mentor left a very unique and secret story to be finished and written. Constance left a notebook with 100 names who Katie had no idea what to do and who they were. She started her journey to find out what stories behind those names and wrote stories about them.
By all the journey Katie had been through, she finally arrived at her destination and the meaning of her life, especially about the stories that a journalist have to 'write.' Katie was helped by a friend and was betrayed by a friend as well. An energetic and curious woman inside and with all Constance advices, messages, and clues made her an unbeatable person even in all the worst things occurred into her life.
Cecelia Ahern wrote this humanist novel in an easy language. I am as an Indonesian, really appreciate how she wrote the novel. She wrote in a very neat chronological order. Though there are quite lot of characters inside, she always describes well and gave the uniqueness for each person. I liked how she ends the story in a logical ending that in this life we must make mistakes and have a chance to recreate the good life and take the lesson from them. I also liked the story because the story told everyone that the sad and unpredictable stories could be found, even in a novel.
The novel was recommended for all journalists and career women. I should say the novel is suitable for the women in their 20s in a moment where they try to find the meaning of life and create goals for their future. It was a lovely time to read this novel though I finished it in a month, which quite times for me. Enjoy the journey of Katie Logan, everyone!
